Glasgow West End: What, where and why!

When deciding on which property to purchase, one of the major factors is of course location.

Whether buying a flat or family home, that area you choose can be determined by several different factors. With Glasgow being Scotland’s most populated city, there are many spots to choose from, all offering something different for individuals.

Hillhead To Hyndland
Within the West End, there are numerous neighborhoods including Hillhead with its blonde sandstone tenements and mix of cafes that attract a young professional and student crowd close to the university.

From Gibson Street over onto Byres Road, there has been a significant change from investor landlords to owner occupiers highlighting the desire to live in the bustling heart of the west end. Dowanahill and Hyndland both offer a mix of tenement flats, grand conversions and townhouses with high ceilings and excellent square footage.

All three of these areas center around the famous Byres Road with its cafes, bars and restaurants, including Ashton Lane – a pedestrian area with numerous eateries and drinking establishments that attract a swarm of customers throughout the entire week.

Famous bars like Jinty McGintys or Brel Bar with their extensive beer gardens, sit across from renowned bar and restaurant Ubiquitous Chip  with its comfortable nooks and crannies, open fire and rooftop terrace.

There is also a cinema to go along with a collection of independently owned restaurants and further along on Creswell Lane, the fantastic Decoursy’s Arcade with its interior design and jewelry boutiques.

At the corner of Byres Road and Great Western Road is the magnificent Oran Mor which sits inside a converted church offering a bar, brasserie and nightclub which also doubles as a theatre and live venue.

Slightly more residential areas such as Kelvinside and Cleveden have a mix of conversions and townhouses set in wide avenues and streets with large gardens.

These homes are well served by amenities on Hyndland Road with boutique shops, delis and excellent eateries such as Caffe Parma , Epicures and Nicks Bar & Grill and Western Health & Rackets Club on Hyndland Road ensures you can stay healthy also.

G12 however is only a small part of the west end and the list above of places to eat, drink and socialize is by no means exhaustive.
